practice makes perfect....

and boy do I have a long way to go! I tried my hand at making a couple of resin pendants last week.

As you can see.... LOTS of bubbles. :/
I used mod podge of the front & back of each paper bird design, let them dry overnight, then attempted the pendants the next day. I used a mold that actually has 15 assorted shapes. I'm thinking I don't like the mold. For me, I think it will be easier to use the collage pendants from now on.

These are the backs. Again.....SO many bubbles!! ACK!
Clearly, (pun intended..hehe...) I'm going to have to practice on the stirring part of the resin process a little more. Because I refuse to let the bubbles get in my way. I WILL win this battle! Artbeads.com is having a storewide "Tax Relief Sale" and mixed media items are included! It ends April 22nd. hmmm...I see some collage pendants in my very near future! ;)

I think they look pretty good! I've never been brave enough to try the resin thing, even though I've watched several youtube how-tos. What brand of resin are you using? And what do you mean by collage pendants?

Thanks Vicki! I'm using EasyCast for now. It takes much longer to cure, which is what I need for just starting out. Collage pendants are frames that you can embed with photos, charms, beads, glitter, etc. Like a mold, but not as deep. I like that they already have a loop for hanging. And you can use resin or a glaze such as, Magic-Glos from Artbeads. I will probably start using the Glos stuff once I start using the collage pendants. I'm hoping there won't be so many bubbles to contend with.

It's so much fun to try new materials and techniques -- but ironing out the difficulties can be a bit frustrating. Sounds like you're handling it very well!

Thank you Vicki, and I SO hear you! You know me...I will forge ahead...and hopefully, I'll have some beautiful resin pieces soon.
Thank you both so much for taking a peek and giving me some honest feedback. It's the best way to learn! :)

Keep practicing! You will learn just as much from your mistakes. ;)

Hello!

Resin is soooooo stubborn!! I use to get TONS of bubbles before too! I now get lots less. That is after some practice and developing some technique. Keep working with it, because when you get those "perfect pieces" you are going to be that much more excited!!!
